Part-Time Executive Director:

The Association of Fundraising Professionals Northern Plains Chapter (AFP-ND) is
looking to hire a part time Executive Director. This flexible hour position will average
approximately 20-40 hours per month for a highly motivated, enthusiastic person to work
from their home office.


The Executive Director provides administration for the Chapter and works closely with
the members of the Board of Directors to further the mission of the Chapter by: raising
awareness of the Chapter; building attendance at Chapter workshops, conferences and
events; building the membership base of the Chapter; and raising financial resources for
the Chapter. The Northern Plains Chapter covers the area of North Dakota and western
Minnesota.


The Executive Director will require either knowledge of or willingness to learn about
nonprofit administration. A Bachelors Degree and 5 years of nonprofit administration or
fundraising experience is preferred, however a candidate with strong relationship building
skills, a passion for service and the potential to help our chapter grow, will be
considered. Salary range is $12,000 to $16,500 dependant on experience. Application
deadline is April 29, 2011 or until the position is filled. Starting date is as soon as
possible.

Job Description
Major Job Responsibilities
I. General Summary

The Executive Director furthers the mission of the AFP ND-Northern
Plains Chapter by: 1) raising awareness of the Chapter; 2) building
attendance at Chapter workshops, conferences and events; 3) building
the membership base of the Chapter; and 4) raising financial resources
for the Chapter.

II. Duties and Responsibilities

1. Provide administration for the Chapter.
2. Attend all board meetings, strategic planning sessions, workshops,
conferences, etc.
3. Record, prepare, and distribute minutes from board meetings and
strategic planning sessions.
4. Maintain Chapter files and records.
5. Research, identify, and apply for sources of funding (grants and
corporate sponsorships) to sustain this position.
6. Develop and maintain database (for mail and e-mail) of members and
prospects, ensuring that new prospects are entered and that all data is
kept current.
7. Develop and maintain a Web site for our Chapter, ensuring that
content is correct and updated.
8. Write, design, and distribute press releases and brochures.
9. Secure speakers and facilities for Chapter workshops and
conferences. Manage logistics for all events, including food and
beverages, room set-up, AV needs, etc.
10. Write, design, and distribute (mail and/or e-mail) monthly newsletter
to members and prospects in timely manner.
11. Send e-mail reminders to members and prospects twice prior to each
workshop.
12. Responsible for all workshop and conference registration activities:
accept and coordinate all registration forms and payments, prepare
registration list and nametags, staff registration table, welcome
attendees, accept on-site payments, prepare receipts, prepare and
distribute certificates and evaluation forms, compile evaluation data
for board, etc.
13. Provide membership identification, recruitment, retention, and
cultivation, including mailing membership information packets to
Chapter workshop non-member attendees.
14. Create and manage annual budget. Deposit funds, pay bills, balance
accounts, and prepare reports.
15. Assist board of directors with National Philanthropy Day event.
16. Develop and maintain a board policies and procedures manual.
17. Gather and compile data and statistics. Prepare reports for board of
directors’ analysis.
18. Assist Chapter President with preparation of agendas, reporting to
International Headquarters, and other activities.
19. Ensure Chapter compliance with AFP International Headquarters’
requirements.
20. Serve as liaison between the Chapter and AFP International
Headquarters.
21. Ensure Chapter compliance with bylaws, policies, and procedures.
22. Conduct annual survey of Chapter constituents. Compile results for
board review and action.
23. Promptly respond to all inquires regarding Chapter workshops,
memberships, etc.
24. Work within budget to achieve Chapter goals.
25. Perform other duties as assigned by the board of directors.

JOB DESCRIPTION:
FUNCTION: Serves as the senior officer for fund development, constituent relations and communications, marketing, and cultural programs. Provides college leadership for the design and implementation of an innovative, comprehensive college advancement strategy, which aligns with Macomb's vision, mission and strategic priorities. Provides executive leadership for the Macomb Foundation; community, public and media relations; marketing and recruitment; alumni relations; the Lorenzo Cultural Center, and the Macomb Center for Performing Arts. Reports directly to the President and serves as a member of the President's Council. Supports the Board of Trustees with media and community relations counsel as needed on college-related issues.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
-Responsible for cultivating external audiences to enhance the College's reputation, financial resources and constituent relationships.
-Builds college awareness and inspires community engagement and strategic alliances through an integrated college advancement plan.
-Provides executive leadership for donor research, prospecting and retention; constituent communications and relations; student recruitment; alumni relations; cultural programming and audience development; special event management; and sponsorship procurement.
-Provides strategic guidance and leadership for all annual, major, planned, and capital campaigns as well as special events designed to secure donations, expand community support, and build endowment funding for the College.
-Serves as a catalyst for driving revenue generation from major gifts ($25,000+), and supports, plans, manages, and implements the work necessary for the President to cultivate and solicit major donors.
-Provides executive support to voluntary boards and panels, whose purpose is to assist with fund development, cultural program development and audience development.
-Provides executive leadership for public ballot initiatives as a component of fund development.
-Provides executive oversight for the functional areas of College Communications, the Macomb
Foundation, Marketing and Recruitment, the Lorenzo Cultural Center, and the Macomb Center for Performing Arts.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Reports to the President of Macomb Community College

SUPERVISION GIVEN:Supervises administrative, supervisory/technical, clerical, part-time and contract personnel.
 
QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION: Bachelor's degree required; Master's Degree preferred or equivalent experience.

EXPERIENCE:At least 5 years of senior-level executive experience, with a successful record of significant fund development, constituent relationship management, marketing, and institutional branding. Superior competencies in communications and public relations, and exceptional organizational and analytical skills. Ability to develop and implement strategic plans with a clear vision for the evolving role of advancement in public institutions of higher education. A strong track record of successfully managing teams, employees, volunteers, and volunteer boards. The energy and enthusiasm to lead the achievement of ambitious fund development plans.
