I have been passionate about school foundations since starting a school foundation in 1984 when I was superintendent of schools. In 2002, I wrote the application for a Federal grant, which we received at the University of Northern Iowa. The $250,000 grant was used to create the National Center for Public and Private School Foundations (NCPPSF), which served as a clearinghouse for schools and school districts wanting to start or advance their foundation. The NCPPSF became the National School Foundation Association.
