Join your fellow Education Foundation leaders to hear how a large urban district foundation and a smaller rural district foundation engage and support students on their boards. Students are an integral part of both Foundation Boards and are involved in everything from grant decisions to donor engagement.

Join the discussion with our panel featuring a student representatives from the Skaneateles Education Foundations who will share her unique perspective.

About the Speakers

Heather Carroll is executive director of the Skaneateles Education Foundation. Skaneateles is a small, rural town, population 7,500, in the Finger Lakes Region of Central New York. The school district serves 1,325 students, 4 of whom are her own teenaged daughters. Heather earned her CEFL in 2016 with the first cohort of students enrolled in that program and joined the NSFA’s Industry Leadership Council in 2018 as the representative for New York State and the northeast region. Heather was honored to join the NSFA board in 2020 and is currently serving on the membership committee and the NSFA National Conference planning committee.

Sophia Cattalani will be graduating with the Class of 2021 from Skaneateles High School. Sophia is a dedicated student and participant in many extracurricular activities. She is president of Skaneateles’ Tri-M chapter, plays trumpet in the jazz band, is a member of National Art Honors Society, a member of National Honors Society, and participates in all of our school theatrical productions, be it on the stage or behind the scenes. Sophia is honored to represent both her peers and community by serving as a bridge between the foundation and the voice of the student body.

Jennifer Henderson is the Executive Director of the Boise Public Schools Foundation. With a focus on the strategic alignment between Foundation and District student goals, Jennifer raises and directs more than $3 million annually and manages $7 million in endowment funds that support students, teachers, classrooms and schools across the Boise School District. Over her 12 years at the BPSEF, Jennifer has raised more than $25 million for Boise Schools.

Under Jennifer’s leadership, the Boise Public Schools Foundation has provided support for initiatives such as Community Schools, Pre-K, Arts, Athletics and Activities, Advanced Placement, Achievement Via Individual Determination (AVID), and Career and Technical instruction.
